Lighthouse Group started in 2023 inside the largest perishable food market in Lagos — Mile 12 Market.
In Nigeria, agro-commodity traders, farmers, and frozen-food importers lose a significant share of their stock every day. Not because demand was low — but because cold storage infrastructure simply wasn't accessible inside the market itself.
To solve this, we launched a single cold storage facility with 1,400 tons of capacity. Demand was immediate. Customers stored, held out for better prices, and reduced daily losses. That early traction made one thing clear:
The problem wasn't demand. The problem was infrastructure.
But the first version of that infrastructure was flawed. Diesel made operation expensive, unpredictable, and impossible to scale. Fuel costs fluctuated. Supply was inconsistent. The customers who needed us most were exposed to optimal-temperature drops every time the pump ran dry.
So we rebuilt the model. We transitioned to fully solar-powered modular cold storage — a cold chain traders could depend on. They store longer, avoid forced sales, and sell at better prices.
We build, own, and operate the infrastructure ourselves. Customers don't need capital, technical knowledge, or long setup times. They show up, store their goods, and use the system immediately.
From Mile 12, we're expanding into a network of cold storage facilities across Nigeria — designed to support how food is actually preserved, moved, and sold.
